Is It Okay For Men To Wear Women’s Lingerie?

Oh look, men wearing 'lingerie'.

Oh look, men wearing 'lingerie'.

Yes. It is okay for men to wear women’s lingerie. Many men don’t know that lace and high heels and other such feminine accouterments were once almost exclusively the domain of men. The French Revolution had a massive impact not only on the European political system, but upon fashion. The types of fashions now seen as feminine were once associated with the aristocracy.

During revolutionary times it was not a particularly bright idea to be associated with the aristocracy, it meant that there was a fairly decent chance you would end up with your head being lopped off by an angry mob with a guillotine.

When lace, lingerie and heels made a comeback, women were the ones who claimed it first. Since that time, some men have been languishing in the dark, believing that there is some sort of natural order to the notion that women should wear pretty silk and satin undergarments.

Hose especially is a male garment which has been turned into  ‘female only’ attire.

The sooner we accept that there is no rhyme or reason to fashion, and certainly no absolute right or wrongs, the sooner we can embrace ourselves as being okay regardless of what we are wearing.

As a woman I can wear jeans, a shirt and a tie and get nothing but smiles. As a man, you should be able to wear whatever takes your fancy. I’m lucky though, for many years women fought for equality. Men have never really had to fight for equality in a gender sense, so the idea is foreign to them.

This is a war of panties and brassieres and stockings and all things nice however, and there need be no nastiness. Simply be who you are and wear what you want to wear. That is all you need to do to send the tides of fashion back in your favor.
