Before you scoff at the idea of a Y chromosome fixing garment which somehow knits the DNA of a man into a more feminine form, hear me out. Many men say that when they wear lingerie and women’s things they become softer and more feminine. A great deal of men report that when dressed en femme they find themselves expressing so called ‘feminine’ personality traits such as increased sensitivity and emotion. In some cases, their personality changes so much that they assign a female name to their new feminine identity.

Men fear, and some feminists have joyously awaited the day when we no longer need men in our societies. Instead we can reproduce through the wonders of science, and live in a golden age of peace and prosperity, presumably because, having gotten rid of men, we will no longer have all that angry war and greed around the place.

Here’s why I think that is less likely than highly advanced aliens coming to the planet to get relationship advice from Dr Phil.

Gender is important to our monkey brains. It’s one of the first things we determine about any new human coming into this world and it dictates our lives from that moment onwards both genetically and socially. In modern culture, we approach gender as being a dichotomy. One is either male, or female. Although nature itself boldly defies this rule by producing children with male and female organs, as a society we have equally boldly ignored this hint and dismissed these children as anomalies to the ‘proper’ way of being, and in doing so have missed the hint which nature is dropping here.

There’s a funny objection to the idea of men wearing lingerie, and that’s the objection to the idea that men are imagining themselves to be women. For some people, the very idea is against all that is natural and good in the world. It is unthinkable. It is… unimaginable.

But there is so much more to men wearing lingerie than meets the eye…

So there’s this little video that has been doing the rounds on social networking sites, long story short, girl throws a drink in a guy’s face, guy sweeps her legs and dumps her on the ground. It’s been greeted with general hilarity because both parties are clearly idiots and nobody actually gets hurt. However, it has inspired great discussion on one of my favorite social networking sites of all time, Reddit, and I thought it would be highly relevant to the interests of my readers as well.

Why do you feel this way? Well, I can’t tell you on a personal level, but I do like to theorize on a general level. There are many reasons why some men want to be women, and I do not claim that this article explains them all. Rather this is one look at a possible reason why young males may decide that it is better and more desirable to be female than it is to be male. Your mileage (and opinions) will vary. Recently one of my readers left a comment on a hub saying that it was all very well and good for women to fight for equality, after all, they started at the bottom so they had nowhere to go but up, therefore they had nothing to lose. Men, on the other hand, are apparently at the top of the food chain and so have something to lose. I thought this was an interesting point and I have pondered deeply before penning this response

In this modern age, macho guys have become as much of a parody of themselves as gay men who walk around limp wristed and lisping about Liz Taylor. Our perception of machismo has become cliched. We think of macho men as men who move in packs, playing sports, leering at women and doing other manly things, like destroying their livers with alcoholic beverages. Professionally, their jobs generally involve some kind of violence. They hunt tigers, they build steel bridges, they become bionic sniper men.

Recently I wrote a hub about why it’s a big deal when men wear women’s clothing, and it brought several women out of the proverbial woodwork who brought up points which, quite frankly, I had not thought about. My boyfriend and I don’t have children you see, we just have two cats, a dog and a bunny, which makes us completely unqualified to speak about anything. Once I engage my uterus for its intended purpose instead of letting it just flop about inside my body like a lazy house guest that just won’t help with the dishes, I’m sure I’ll see the light, as other ladies have.

This is a follow up to the wildly popular and fiercely debated ‘Why It’s A Big Deal When Men Wear Women’s Clothes In Public’, and a rebuttal to some of the more ignorant comments there which claimed that men shouldn’t wear women’s clothing not because they don’t have the right to, but because they don’t look good in it.

The sheer arrogance and indeed, shallowness of these claims aside, this is one of those times where fire can be fought with fire, for the claim that men do not look good in women’s clothing is simply false
