I told you I’d return to this issue, and so I have. Here’s a bit of a breakdown about race, gender issues and men who wear dresses for personal fulfillment or alternatively, to be laughed at.

This article came to be after I watched a video clip of Dave Chapelle talking about a time he refused to wear a dress in a movie. He went on to explain that he felt that Hollywood always tried to put strong black men in dresses for amusement value and that it was, on some level, degrading to black men. “They put every black man in the movies in a dress at some point in his career,” Chapelle says.

Just when you think that fashion inequality probably couldn’t get much worse, fashion trends back towards masculine styles for women and leaves men out in the cold once more. What am I talking about? Well thanks to the lovely Cyndie, I have become aware of the fact that Rachel Ray, that charming, husky voiced ex cheerleader who can make a meal quicker than McDonald’s can make your order, has recommended that her female audience wear men’s Hanes beefy tees.

Let’s have a discussion! Discussion is good for the soul and the typing fingers. If you’re a man who wears women’s clothing, do you feel that you are better for it? Before we get started with the shouty comments downstairs, let’s make it quite clear, I’m not asking if men who wear women’s clothing are better than men who do not, nor am I attempting to imply such a thing. Last I checked, men who wear women’s clothing have to put their pantyhose on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

This story is almost half a year old and I apologize profusely for not having reported on it the moment it happened, but then again, that’s what the BBC is for. In 2009, 17 male members of a British football team were arrested in a popular Greek resort for dressing as nuns and flashing passers by. Police reported: “They were dressed like nuns, carrying crosses, but wearing thongs under their skirts and showing people their bottoms and the rest.”
